AES personnel have conducted remedial investigations, pilot tests, system designs, system installations, and operation and maintenance on numerous projects encompassing a wide range of contaminants. AES typically prepares Conceptual Site Models as part of Phase II subsurface assessment reports to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the Site prior to developing a remedial alternative and implementing a remedial strategy. AES prepares Remedial Alternative Plans which include data gathered during pilot tests (for soil vapor extraction, air sparge, and groundwater pumping tests) and site sampling activities.

Remedial alternatives implemented by AES personnel include:  soil vapor extraction, air sparge, groundwater recovery, soil removal (with off-site recycling or disposal), in-situ chemical oxidation, bioremediation, and soil stabilization.

AES has conducted pilot tests for air-sparging (with helium tracer gas), soil vapor extraction, groundwater pumping tests, and in-situ chemical oxidation.

AES personnel remediated a 10,000 gallon gasoline spill into wetland and water supply area to background concentrations. AES has completed remedial activities and site closure for a major Brownfield project in Worcester, involving remediation of chlorinated solvents at the site of a large medical center. AES personnel have overseen numerous UST removals involving off-site soil recycling.

Contaminants addressed during remedial actions include: petroleum (gasoline, diesel and fuel oil), volatile organic compounds (trichloroethene, tetrachloroethene, etc.), metals, and semi-volatile organics (poly aromatic hydrocarbons).

Hardwick, Massachusetts Town of Hardwick Removal of a 1,000-gallon diesel fuel UST at a sewer pump station. During removal of the tank, soil contamination was encountered. AES oversaw the removal of the UST and contaminated soil and prepared subsequent regulatory reports.
Northampton, Massachusetts
VA Comprehensive landfill assessment, closure design and long term monitoring of a historic landfill site at the Northampton VA Medical Facility.

Plant City, Florida
USEPA Conducted UST removals and ASTM Phase II compliant TBAs at two former gas stations. Prepared Limited Phase II ESAs and UST Closure Reports.

North Brookfield, Massachusetts USEPA
Conducted Brownfields investigation activities including delineation of subsurface asbestos (during which an unknown 10,000 gallon UST identified), achieving and maintaining MCP compliance by submitting a Phase I – Initial Site Assessment, conducting geotechnical borings, and overseeing capping operations on site. 2008-2009
